Workshops are one-time events and each one has a different theme or art instruction experience. Painting with Chris Cruz
Junk Art Journaling + Book Binding
Turn everyday scraps into a one-of-a-kind junk journal you’ll actually want to keep using.
In this hands-on, interactive workshop, artist Chris Cruz will guide you through the creative process of building a junk journal and learning the basics of book binding. You’ll layer papers, textures, and found materials to create pages full of personality—then bring it all together into a finished, bound journal.
What you’ll learn
- How to plan and build a junk journal with themed pages and pockets
- Simple binding techniques to assemble your journal into a finished book
- Tips for arranging textures, layers, and “found” materials so it looks cohesive (and not cluttered)
What to bring
Bring a small bag of items you’d love to transform into art, such as:
- Scraps of paper (notes, old letters, magazine pages, sheet music, etc.)
- Buttons, ribbons, fabric bits, lace, twine
- Old mail, postcards, tags, interesting packaging—anything with texture or story
