Melanie Morris - Painting Landscapes with Acrylics - Supply List
Landscape Photo
Each student should bring several personal landscape photos to class. Everyone will paint from one of his/her own photographs.
Acrylic Paints/Medium
I like Golden brand acrylics but any brand is fine. Avoid student grade paint.
- Cadmium Red Medium
- Hansa Yellow Opaque
- Raw Umber
- Titanium White
- Ultramarine Blue
- Zinc White
- Regular Gloss Gel Medium (thicker kind in a jar not liquid – Golden makes a good one)
- Retarder (liquid – Golden makes a good one)
I also like to keep the following colors on my palette.
- Cerulean Blue Chromium (optional)
- Cadmium Orange (optional)
- Yellow Ochre (optional)
- Quinacridone Magenta (optional)
- Dioxazine Purple (optional)
Brushes
- Synthetic Brushes (small round and larger, inexpensive brush for toning your canvas)
- Water container to clean brushes -- large jar, plastic cup, etc.
- Palette/painting knife -- We will paint mainly with the palette knife so purchase a metal one with a diamond shaped blade that is rounded at the tip. I like the Fredrix 7054.
Palette
- Large Disposable Paper Palette (without hole – 12 x 16 or larger)
- Sta-Wet Premier Palette (red top version comes with the sponge and paper you will need). I keep my paint on this palette box & mix on the disposable paper palette.
Other
- Willow charcoal -- for initial sketch
- Paper towels
- Two Canvases (the size is your choice but no larger than 20x24)
- Paper for thumbnail initial sketches
